Jakarta, Viral35-media.com Indonesia – Twitter founder Jack Dorsey suddenly wrote an apology in a series he tweeted. The post comes after reports of new owner and billionaire Elon Musk laying off half of the social media giant’s 7,500 employees.
In one of his tweets, Dorsey explained he was growing the size of the company too quickly. Apart from that, according to him, the people in the company are strong and tough figures, this picture has happened both before and now.
“They will always find a way, no matter how difficult it is. I realized that many were angry with me. I have a responsibility for why everyone is in this situation: I grew the size of the company too fast. I’m sorry for that,” Dorsey explained in his tweet, quoted Monday (7/11/2022).
The number of Twitter employees as of June 30, 2013, before the company was listed on the stock exchange, reached 2,000 people. At the end of last year, Twitter reported the number of employees 7,500 people.
“I thank and love everyone who has worked at Twitter. I don’t expect to be reciprocal now…or forever… and I understand.”
Less than a week after buying the company, Musk is known to immediately make massive changes to Twitter. One of them is reducing workers and in an email to employees mentioning this step is “necessary in order to ensure the company moves forward”.
Reuters and other media reported that Musk wants to cut Twitter’s total 7,500 employees in half.
Prior to the massive layoffs, Twitter executives were also fired shortly after the $44 billion purchase deal took place. One of them is Dorsey’s successor, Parag Agrawal from the CEO chair.
In addition to cutting staff, Musk is also considering charging blue-tick accounts. Reportedly, the package will be included in Twitter Blue, the company’s premium subscription service.
According to Spacex bosses, subscription plans can provide Twitter with a revenue stream for content creators. But not all support the policy, those who oppose arguing it could make it easier for users to spread disinformation or impersonate someone else.
Many are concerned that the overhaul of Twitter could lead to an explosion of hate speech. According to a study from Montclair State University, 12 hours after Musk became owner there was a much more “hostile” environment on Twitter.
