It’s a dream for every dad to be able to be by their daughter’s side as they walk down the aisle, and actor Jeff Bridges wasn’t going to miss out on his little girl’s big day, despite not even being able to stand.

The Big Lebowski star has revealed the lengths he has gone to fulfill his dream, even enlisting the help of a personal trainer to help him re-learn how to walk after he almost died from contracting COVID-19 while battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

But before he could even begin, he told The Independent“The first goal was how long can I stand up.”

He was only able to stand for 45 seconds at a time, but he was determined, working with a trainer to eventually take steps and stabilise his breathing with the help of oxygen assistance.

“Finally, one day I said, ‘Maybe I can do it, you know.’ And it turns out I not only got to walk her down the aisle, but I got to do the wedding dance. That was terrific’,” Bridges shared.

Bridge’s daughter, Hayley Roselouise Bridges, got married in August 2021, with her dad proudly standing by her side.

Bridges, 72, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in October 2020, with his condition worsening when he contracted COVID-19 in January 2021. He announced in late 2021 that his cancer was finally in remission.

Bridges shared with People in May of this year that his bout with COVID-19 was arguably worse than his cancer.

“I had no defenses. That’s what chemo does – it strips you of all your immune system. I had nothing to fight it… COVID-19 made my cancer look like nothing,” he recalled.

“I was pretty close to dying. The doctors kept telling me, ‘Jeff, you’ve got to fight. You’re not fighting.’ I was in surrender mode. I was ready to go. I was dancing with my mortality.”
